Genevieve Sweeney is a brand with a soul, a story to tell, and a passion that far exceeds simply devising beautiful garments of exceptional quality.
Having learnt to knit aged 5 as a way to keep entertained during long car journeys, Sweeney’s route to launching her own brand was made through a series of serendipitous encounters.
Having just graduated, she quickly made her mark in the knitwear industry, working for global brands rag & bone, Hugo Boss, Burberry and Lyle & Scott. This gave her a glimpse into manufacturing processes and helped her to better understand how a product is actually made. It was only following a chance encounter with a hand-intarsia knitter than her dedication and passion to make heritage techniques relevant once more was born.
In 2015, Genevieve Sweeney started her own label as a way to save the dying skill of hand-knitting. Her name has since become synonymous for blending textile heritage with contemporary designs.
Genevieve works with British micro-mills and knitters only, looking to revive an industry that was once the backbone of the country, focusing greatly on sustainability in all processes involved, and continuously experimenting with new yarn blends to achieve optimal quality.
Knitting might still be her hobby (alongside with restoring old knitting machines) but her dedication goes further than simply setting up her own label: Genevieve Sweeney wants to revive the UK textile industry, re-employ skilled linkers and knitters, and train a new generation to take over too. We can only be in awe.
